The Lake Panorama Erosion Control Department is responsible for silt removal in the Lake. Lake Panorama is located on the Middle Raccoon River. Over two hundred square miles of land drain into the lake. This drainage results in some silt being brought into the lake on a regular basis and large amounts being deposited during large flood events, such as 1993, 1998 and 2008.

Dredging Lake Panorama is an ongoing process. Usually the dredging season lasts from shortly after the ice goes out in the spring until it ices up again in the fall.

The Dredge will be operating between the Fansler Bridge and the Upper Basin at the beginning of the 2008 dredging season. The HORIZON completed dredging the upper basin area in 2003 and is re-working the river channel below the Fansler Bridge and just above the Upper Basin. The Rural Improvement Zone pays for the dredging on a contract basis with the Lake Panorama Association.

Visit the Rural Improvement Zone page for more information on these efforts.

SPECIAL NOTICE:
In most cases the dredging area is marked to prohibit boating. If the dredge is in an area where boaters are allowed, they should be aware of dredge operations. Watch for marker buoys that locate the dredge pipe. All water users should stay clear of the dredge and be cautious while traveling in the area. Boating is restricted in the area of dredging. Watch for signs.
