New Board Officers Selected
A new slate of officers for the LPA Board was selected at the May 28 regular meeting.
Bob Hollwager was elected board president. Ron Frisbie is the new vice-president. Paul Buchanan is the secretary and Ron Morden is treasurer. These members will serve in their new capacities through the 2003 Annual Meeting.
May Lake Water Quality Good
Water quality tests taken May 21 showed no serious fecal coliform bacteria levels in beach and main lake areas. The tests showed one area of bacterial problem at the Fansler Bridge, but levels at Sunset, Boulder, Shady and at the dam were well below the safety concern level measured at 200 units. Health officials caution that, if bacterial levels are over the 200 unit level, that there may be a health risk to small children, the elderly, or those suffering from immune deficiency. That would come from swallowing the contaminated water or failure to wash thoroughly before eating after being in the water where contamination is present in high concentrations.
Fecal coliform can come from animal waste, poor septic systems, or poor sanitation practices. This is one of the primary reasons for rigid sanitation rules for septic systems at Lake Panorama.
Sewer Agreement Finalized
Details of a sewage management agreement between the LPA and the City of Panora were finalized at the May 23 meeting. The agreement provides for the LPA owned sewer line at east side of the main basin to pump into the City system for treatment. The agreement provides the means to determine rates and establishes the rates charged at the beginning of the agreement. These are the rates already calculated for the 40+ member users of the system. Construction on the new lift station for the area has begun and should be completed by mid-June.
Seal Coating Coming
The annual seal coat program for about 15 miles of LPA streets will commence in late June or early July depending on LPA maintenance department repairs and contractor availability.
Please be patient with the contractor when work is being done in your area.
Memorial Day Weekend Report
The Memorial Day weekend, though cool, gave Lake members and guests a good taste of the summer to come. Weekend boating was not extremely heavy. Member camping was typical of the weekend and road traffic was fairly heavy. No major safety problems were incurred.
Pets not permitted on Beaches
Members are reminded that LPA rules do not allow pets on any of the three LPA beach areas. Also pets are to be kept on your own property or, if walked, must be under leash. All pets on community areas should be leashed and supervised.
ATV Reminder
ATVs are allowed only on your own property at Lake Panorama, and then can only be operated in a manner that is not a nuisance to neighbors. Usage of ATV type vehicles is prohibited on roads, community areas, unplatted property and all other property.
