Golf Course and Conference Center Progress
The LPA has finalized the agreement to purchase the Lake Panorama National Conference Center and associated property. The LPA will also operate the Lake Panorama National Golf Course. The transaction will be completed on January 5, 2005.
The LPA board of directors has appointed a committee to develop the business format for operation of the facilities.
The septic system for the facility is being updated before the transfer.
Watch for more information at this site and a new golf course website that will be coming online this winter.
Project Progress
The 5 ton hydraulic cylinders that move the dam gate have been replaced. The project took about two weeks from start to finish. The lake had to be lowered for the replacement, and is now gradually rising.
The new water tower painting is in progress at the beginning of November. Hopefully the tank will be online sometime this winter.
Water lines have been extended to the Nester Point area on the extreme west end of the development on the west side of the lake. Two homes are already underway in that area.
Dredging continues in the upper basin, and will go on until the weather starts the lake freeze up.
The middle underwater portion of the marina boat ramp was fixed while the lake level was down. A large crack and drop off had stranded many small vehicles trying to pull boats out.
Other activities going on while the lake is down include sunken log removals, locating other sunken hazards for removal when the water level permits, dragline work in Burchfield Cove removing siltation, and tree removals on the rip rap areas of the south shore in the main basin.
Rip rap work planned for the upper basin area was completed except for a very steep high bank area on the east shoreline. The area was deemed too steep to work from safely and any work done under the terms for the contract might have actually created more erosion. Other solutions are being sought for the area.
Bidding for Silt Basin
The Lake Panorama Rural Improvement Zone directors have received bids for the new "county basin" silt dam that will be located west of Nester Point. Bids will be awarded soon.
Winter Security Check Sign-Up
Lake Panorama’s Security department offers house check services through the winter months for snowbirds and second home owners. For information on the service, contact the security department at 641 755 3101.
Special Deer Hunt Continues This Fall
A special deer hunt is available again this year for designated areas around the development. Bow hunting and muzzle loader hunting are permitted in special zones and times.
The special hunt was begun to help keep the burgeoning deer population in check. Last year’s hunt claimed over a hundred animals.
For information, members and their guests should contact the LPA office at 641 755 2301.
Leaf Handling
Although LPA members may burn anything on their lot that grows there, they should be careful to not burn anything on or near the seal coat. The asphalt tar in the seal coat can actually be destroyed. Fines will be levied to cover repairs of fire damage to the streets.
It is best not to burn leaves in ditches as valuable erosion control can be lost by the damage to existing grass. Use your driveway rock or a burn barrel. Leaves can also be hauled to one of three current brush dump areas at the lake.
Boat Stats for 2004
1679 boats were registered at the lake in 2004. There were 1396 boats and 283 personal watercraft. The boats consisted of 361 with less than 10 horsepower and 1035 with over 10 horsepower.
Boat Fines in 2004
Speeding in marked coves was the most frequent violation for boaters in 2004 with 16 tickets given. Boats without stickers accounted for 13 violations. 15 members were ticketed for speeding in the upper basin area. 7 were given fines for having overloaded boats. 5 had no lights on after sunset and three violated the rule requiring an observer for skiing and towing. There was one fine for speeding after dark.
