Dredge Making Progress
The Lake Panorama HORIZON dredge is making progress in Burchfield Cove with just under 50,000 cubic yards of silt removed in the month of May. The HORIZON will continue in Burchfield Cove until mid July.

MasterCard and VISA honored at LPA office
MasterCard and VISA credit and debit cards can be used at the Lake Panorama office for all fees and charges. No other cards can be accepted at this time. A 3 1/2 percent fee is charged to cover the LPA's cost of handling the transaction.

Speeding Problem
Speeding on lake roads has caused some concerns by many lake members. The LPA Security Department has obtained a radar gun to confirm speeds and will be spot checking trouble areas. New signage will make it clearer what the speed limit is. Lake roads classified as service roads are posted at 35 mph, unless visibility, curves and hills pose a safety problem. All other residential roads are posted at 25 mph.

Onsite Waste Management
All homes in the development that are not on either of the two sewer systems are subject to the rules of the Guthrie County Board of Health, under the auspices of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. An Onsite Waste Management Committee reviews onsite septic system problems with Stephen Patterson, Guthrie County Sanitarian. The Committee makes recommendations for improvements and changes to the rules, which are approved by the County.

All building permits and home expansions require approval from the Guthrie County Environmental Health office.

Proper handling of waste in onsite septic systems is important for the value of the property and to avoid the very high costs of having to install a future sewer system. The rules are for the benefit of every property owner. Questions should be directed to Stephen Patterson at 641 747 8320.

Expect Algae
Quiet days and low rainfall often produce "blooms" of algae in any lake or pond in Iowa. The blooms may appear as blobs of green, brown or red, or may be dispersed in the water by wave action and make the water appear lime-green. Some of these algae may be blue-green algae, which can sometimes cause allergic reactions in pets and people. It is best to not swim in heavy algal infestations or at least to shower as soon as getting out. It is best not to allow pets to drink water full of algae. It is always best not to ingest lake water due to natural organisms present and to potential disease causing organisms.
