Buchanan to Resign from LPA Board--Replacement appointment needed
Lake Panorama Association board member Paul Buchanan is selling his home at the lake and therefore will be resigning from the LPA board effective September 30, 2005. Under the LPA bylaws, the LPA board "shall appoint someone to fill out the unexpired term" (which ends with next April's election).
The LPA board is looking for any members who have an interest in serving on the board from October, 2005 through April, 2006. The board intends to select the most qualified individual to fill this position. That board position will be up for election for a full three year term by the entire LPA membership at next year's annual meeting in April.
Interested individuals are asked to submit a letter of interest, including background and qualifications, to board president Ron Morden at 7059 Andrews Terrace, Panora, IA. 50216-8705. The board intends to fill the open position at its Oct. 25 meeting. Questions? Call Morden, 755-3217.

HORIZON Begins work in Jones Cove
The Lake Panorama HORIZON dredge is making progress in Jone’s Cove after completing the upper end and the west fork of Burchfield Cove. The Dredge will be pumping into the Jones Cove silt pond which is the storage area below water tower hill on the west side of the lake. The dredge will be pumping 80 hours a week while working in the Cove.

ALGAE Bloom colors lake
An extensive bloom of blue-green and other algae has arrived this summer due to the warm temperatures and clear water conditions. Some of the coves have been bothered by excessive amounts of the blue/ blue-green/ or brown colored scum that results when conditions are right.
Changes in weather and temperature should cause some reduction in the algae amounts. Keep pets and people out of the scum coated areas. Showering is advised after swimming and recreational activities, as some people have reactions to the algae.

COUNTY BASIN Work Continues
The County Basin silt retention structure work continues. The water outlet tower which will stand about 70 feet above the floor of the basin is nearing its full height. Extensive fill for the base of the dam is being dug, hauled and compacted presently. Projected completion is June 30 of 2006.

BOAT LENGTH RULE REMAINS
The restriction that the overall boat length for motorboats at the lake be restricted to 24 feet has been retained. Swim platforms are considered part of the boat. Since each manufacturer may make slight differences in measuring craft, be sure your new boat is no longer than 24 feet.

FISH KILL Reported
Water and seasonal conditions have combined to result in a minor fish kill in several areas of the lake. Low oxygen levels and high water temperatures have caused losses of certain sizes and kinds of fish most susceptible to the stressful conditions. This often occurs during this time of year, although it is more extensive than usual.
