LPA votes to Hook Up Water System to city of Panora
While details of a long-term plan to solve water quality problems at the Lake are not yet finalized, the LPA Board took a step toward the solution by voting to hook the LPA system to the Panora city system to be able to obtain supplemental water during periods of high need.

The hook up will consist of a pumping station that will be able to pump the water into the LPA system at suitable pressures to give the LPA water on an as needed basis.

The supplemental water will enable the LPA to shut down or reduce the usage of one of the Dakota aquifer wells that has extremely high levels of iron and manganese, the source of problems currently in the system.

The hook-up should alleviate the first part of the LPA problems while solutions are sought that will consider the options for additional water treatment, search for another well, or other options to provide both the quality and quantity needed in the LPA's future.

The project is being fast-tracked in an attempt to have the hook-up completed before the July 4 holiday.

Jeschke named LPA Board President
Tom Jeschke was named LPA Board President at the May 27th meeting. John McDermott was elected Vice-president, Susan Thompson as Secretary, and Duane Spicer as Treasurer. Other members are Ron Morden, Bill Douglass, and Kane Powell.

State DNR Rule Changes
The State of Iowa has passed a new rule requiring children under 13 to wear personal flotation devices while the vessel is underway, which means when the vessel is not tied to a dock, anchored, or aground.

Although LPA rules permit those 16 and over to operate a boat of ten horsepower or more, those that are under 18 must have received their DNR safe boating certificate and have it with them or be supervised by an adult familiar with boating who is 18 or over.

Required observers for skiers and tubers must be at least nine years old.

Bids Sought for Dam Rip Rap
The LPA Board has decided to seek bids for rip rap work below the Lake Panorama dam spillway to determine whether the work will be done this year. The decision was made at the May 27th Board meeting.

Boaters Urged to Use Caution in Narrows
The Narrows, that area between the upper basin and the basin where Sunset Beach is located is an area where boater's should use caution because of the lack of boating room. Novice skiers and tubers should not be pulled through the area. Speed should be watched and boaters are reminded to remain at least 50 feet from docks and the shoreline. Others should be watching for downed skiers and tubers.

DNR dock permit applications due by July 1
Lakefront owners are reminded that their dock permit applications must be sent in by July 1.

The LPA office continues to process dock sign orders. As soon as the DNR permit is received, the signs must be ordered through the LPA office.

Hydrant Flushing Scheduled for June 16-20
The third round of water main flushing will be done the week of June 16 to 20. This is part of the ongoing effort to relieve the water system of high sediments resulting from high iron and maganese levels in Well number 3. The Water system was not designed for the water source now being used and the level of iron and manganese in well 3 is much higher than the system can handle.

Work and planning continue on the short and long term solution for this problem and the need for additional water quantity.

Please report Violations Immediately
Boaters (and land users) who view safety rule violations should report them immediately to the LPA Security Department by calling 755-3101. If possible, give as much information regarding the violators by observing as many details as possible. The prompt reporting of violations is the only opportunity for Security to properly respond to serious issues.

Reports that come in a day or two later are virtually useless for enforcement and solving the issues.

Although delayed by repeated bad weather, the Spikes building continues to develop. Stop by the LPN and view the progress.
